Dangote Refinery Expansion Targets World’s Largest Single-Train Capacity, Tens of Thousands of Jobs

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is pushing ahead with an expansion programme that Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, says will make it the largest single-train refinery in the world once complete. The company says the expansion has already helped push direct and indirect employment linked to the facility toward the 95,000 mark, spanning construction, logistics, engineering and downstream distribution roles.

The Lekki-based refinery has already reshaped Nigeria’s fuel supply chain since coming online, reducing the country’s historic reliance on imported refined products. Industry watchers say further expansion could position Nigeria as a net exporter of refined petroleum products to the wider West African region.

Government officials have pointed to the refinery as a flagship example of the large-scale industrial investment the administration hopes to attract more of.
