2027 Race Heats Up as APC-Linked Movement Launches With Tinubu, Ribadu Watching

A new APC-aligned political movement was formally launched this week, with President Bola Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu watching the inauguration broadcast live on television. The launch has triggered mixed reactions, with supporters framing it as an early consolidation of the ruling party’s structure for 2027, while critics see it as a sign of anxiety within the APC camp over a growing opposition coalition.

Meanwhile, opposition ranks have continued to shift. Senator Aminu Tambuwal has publicly appealed to fellow politicians to consider joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), welcoming a former APC state chairman who recently defected to the party. The ADC has positioned itself as the main rallying point for anti-APC forces, though it has also faced criticism over policy proposals, including suggestions it could revisit the fuel subsidy regime if it wins power.

With just under a year to the next general election cycle, party realignment is expected to accelerate.
